Siebe Thijs (°1999, Ghent, BE) is a composer. Recent works have been played and commissioned by I SOLISTI, Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen, Muziektheater Transparant, Zonzo Compagnie, Musica, Muziekzomer Gelderland, Strings&Noise, Extended Music Collective, Koi Collective, Goggles and Kunsthalle Mannheim, among others. In recent years, his work has been heard in Belgium, The Netherlands, France, Germany, Austria, Sweden and Luxembourg.
Fascinated by sound and its inexhaustible layers of accompanying meaning and association, as well as social and human themes, Thijs’s work is characterised by a constant questioning of the role of instruments, objects and the human body, as well as their interrelationships.
Besides writing music for the concert hall, Thijs focuses on the creation of interdisciplinary projects such as installation and music theatre. PILGRIMAGE, his first full-length interdisciplinary performance premiered in September 2025 in co-production with Muziektheater Transparant, DE SINGEL, KVS, Platform 0090 and C-TAKT.
Thijs studied composition at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent, the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp and the Kunstuniversität Graz (Austria) with Bram Van Camp, Wim Henderickx and Clemens Gadenstätter. He also got masterclasses from Clara Iannotta, Marco Stroppa, Mark Andre, Bernhard Lang, Annesley Black, Mauro Lanza, amongst others, and was part of the creators connectors program of Music Theatre Now.
